Author(s): Sandie Docker

Fiction (NR)

Sisters Eleanor and Maggie have been running the Lyrebird Lake Ladies' Choir for many years. The choir meets every week in the sisters' stately federation house on the lake's edge and means so much to the women who have found their 'home' there over the years.

But the house itself is in desperate need of repair and the only way to save it, and the choir, is for them to win the All Voices Championship and the prize money that comes with it.

When single mum Hannah pitches a tent on the camping ground next door, homeless after being widowed, she has the opportunity to start over, and perhaps have a second chance at love with local lawyer Benjamin. With her angelic voice, Hannah may be just what the choir needs to give them a winning edge. But when Eleanor hears Hannah singing a long-forgotten lullaby, one she composed forty years before, Eleanor is thrust back into a past she buried for good reason.

In 1973, nineteen-year-old Eleanor escorts her young sister Maggie to Australia, after they are banished from their Irish village when Maggie becomes pregnant, unwed. Starting a new life thousands of miles from home is never going be easy, but when when their life in Australia is turned upside down Eleanor is forced to make a decision that changes both their lives forever.

Will Hannah's arrival in Lyrebird Lake save the choir, or will the secret from the past she unknowingly carries tear them all apart?
