Finding Eden: A Journey into the Heart of Borneo

Author(s): Robin Hanbury-Tenison

Travel

The expedition triggered the global rainforest movement and highlighted, for the first time, how rich, diverse and ecologically important rainforests are. But since then, Borneo has gone from being a garden of Eden to a dry monocultural desert, where the traditional way of life of the indigenous people of the rainforests is being slowly eroded. Here, Hanbury-Tenison describes the months he spent in Borneo, using his original diaries and photographs. This is the story of complete immersion in a tribal way of life that is on the cusp of extinction. At its heart is the relationship between Hanbury-Tenison and Nyapun - a member of the Penan tribe who would become a lifelong friend and inspiration.
