Author description

Jan Gothard is Associate Professor in Australian history at Murdoch University. Gothard has had a longstanding interest in oral history and she is the former editor of the Oral History Association of Australia Journal. In 2001, she was awarded the Australian government's Centenary Medal for 'services to literature and to society.' She has three daughters and has had a long-term interest in disability since the birth of her daughter with Down syndrome in 1992.
