New Zealand is a skier's delight. Mountainous terrain in both islands provides ideal topography while winter weather patterns deposit generous depths of snow. Yet the cold season is seldom so severe as to prevent full enjoyment of the excellent skiing conditions it produces from May until October. Skifields offer wonderful options for all budgets and experience levels. Visitors,look- ing for high standards in terms of coaching, learner slopes, equipment hire, tow facili- ties, snow making and grooming, field supervision and apres-ski appointments will find a good number of such fields, some readily accessed from the main urban centres by daily shuttle services during the season. For the more adventurous, club fields offer varying levels of on-field facilities and accommodation. There are many of these, throughout the South Island particularly, and they invariably extend visiting skiers a hearty welcome. This publication is intended as a guide only. While"every effort has been made to present accurate data, skiers should always make contact with a field or club, before setting out, for up-to-date information on conditions and facilities. The maps included herein are intended to serve as no more than indicators of field locations and should not, under any circumstances, be used for navigation purposes.
