Barry Alexander Wilson was born in Oamaru on the 9th November 1948. He was educated at Oamaru South and Oamaru North primary schools before receiving secondary education at Waitaki Boy’s High. Barry has always been an outdoor type and has hunted and fished all his adult life although in recent years has adopted a preference to hunting with a camera rather than a rifle. Presently he is the Patron of the North Otago branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association. His other interests include the establishment of ponds and wetlands. He was instrumental in the creation of the “Devil’s Bridge Wetland” near Oamaru and retains an interest in re-vegetation of native plant species. “It’s a long walk to the Lindis” is the first published book by Barry although he has been the author of many reports and papers particularly concerning hunting and wildlife.
